The lovely Sylvia Hoeks plays a young girl drawing in her attic room during World War II in Rotterdam.
As her city is bombed by the German Luftwaffe she flees into her fantasy world to escape the war. In her own fantasy world she experiences a moment of true happiness.
The footage of Sylvia skating was shot on a bluescreen stage using plastic panels as a skating surface. Eis Frei was shot at digitally on a beta-version of the Red One camera.
The imaginary world around her was designed and created by Raamw3rk, in cooperation with Jasper Wessels from Waanzee. The world transforms from an open landscape into a dark sinister forest. The goal was to create a stylized and surreal atmosphere.
Raamw3rk was responsible for on-set supervision, designing the visual effects pipeline and the final color grade for the film in 2k.
