to do a last-minute contribution to the video-backgrounds for ‘Hersenschimmen’ (Out of Mind), a performance by Ro Theater - directed by Guy Cassiers.
Hersenschimmen is the story of Maarten Klein, retired secretary of a maritime organisation, who looks all set to enjoy his old age in peace with his wife. That is, until his brain begins to deteriorate. Slowly Maarten loses his memory to Alzheimers.
Waanzee created video backgrounds for this project. The workload and deadlines were so tight in the last two weeks before the premiere, that I was asked to jump in and created the flashbacks that Maarten encounters.
The resulting animations are short, discomforting bursts of memories, resulting from a malfunctioning brain.
The images were projected on three screens. The animations were created at 2304×576 and then divided into three PAL streams. In a timespan of one week we created around 7 10-second animations.
